Supporting documents for Application (Foundation and Bachelor Degree Programmes):

  1. Certified true copy  of actual SPM / Other equivalent results
  2. Certified true copy of actual STPM / A-level / SAM / CPU / UEC / Other equivalent results
  3. Certified true copy of School Leaving Certificate
  4. Certified true copy of Identity Card
  5. Certified true copy of MUET (compulsory for STPM holders)
If using other qualification(s), for example Diploma/Advance diploma from College/Institution/Polytechnic:

  1. Certified true copy of Certificate of Awards.

Application submitted without the above documents will be processed for normal admission without any consideration for credit transfer.

English Language Requirement (Local)

You need to be proficient in the English language, which is the medium of instruction and examination at the University. Most programmes would normally require a credit relevant score in English Language in one of the following examinations:

Note: All Malaysian applicants (except for Chinese Studies) must have one of the above English Language qualifications or any other English Language qualification as approved by Senate. 

English Language Requirement (International)

All international students are required to meet academic entry requirements as well as a standard of English Language proficiency in order to study in UTAR.

Starting from 1 January 2018, international students who wish to enrol into the Foundation and Bachelor's degree programmes shall possess English Language score in of the following tests:

Some Bachelor's degree programmes may require high English Language test scores as set by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) or the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). These programmes are:

1) Business programmes - IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550/equivalent (IELTS 6.0/equivalent for Finance)
2) Computing programmes - IELTS 6.0/TOEFL550/equivalent
3) Journalism/Public Relations - IELTS 5.50/TOEFL 550/equivalent
4) English Language/ English Education - IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 550/equivalent
5) Biomedical Science/Chinese Medicine/Physiotherapy - IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 550/equivalent
6) Nursing - IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 515/equivalent
7) MBBS - IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 580/equivalent

Condition offers will be issued to students who have fulfilled the academic entry requirements but do not have or achieve one of the above English Language test scores as required. Under such condition, the students will undergo the UTAR English Enhancement Programme (EEP) and sign up for the IELTS test through UTAR. The students must pass the IELTS test with required score within 1 year, before they can commence their Foundation/Bachelor's degree programme.

English Language Requirement (International Postgraduate)

Students who wish to apply for the Master's and PhD programmes, in addition to the academic requirements a candidate is also required to possess an English Language certification as stated in the below table:

Notwithstanding the above, English language requirement for programmes not stated in the above table, candidate is required to possess any one of the following:

An international student who do not fulfill the English Language requirement will be considered for conditional offers. They need to enrol in the UTAR English Enhancement Programme (EEP) first and pass the IELTS/TOEFL/MUET test with the required score within 12 months after arriving Malaysia.

Additional supporting documents: Those intend to pursue postgraduates studies with UTAR should provide a letter from former institution's Registrar stating that English was the sole medium of instruction for the Bacherlor's or Master's degree programmes studied previously.  

Chinese Language  Requirement (only applicable for Chinese Studies programmes)

In addition to the academic requirements and English requirement*, an applicant is also required to possess any one of the following:

(a) a credit in SPM Chinese Language;
(b) a credit in "O" level Chinese Language;
(c) a credit in UEC Chinese Language Examination;
(d) a pass in STPM Chinese Language;
(e) minimum grade A (Level 8) in Chinese Proficiency Test: HSK (The Intermediate Certificate);
(f) minimum level 5 in Test Of Proficiency- Huayu: TOP (Advanced level);
(g) Level 5 (minimum 210 marks, maximum 300 out of 300 marks) in China's Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì (NewHSK)/ New Chinese Proficiency Test (from 2010 onwards);
(h) Level 5 in Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) (from 2013 onwards);

If the applicant has obtained the Bachelor's or Master's degree with Chinese as the sole medium of instruction, please provide the letter from the institution's Registrar as support document.

*English language requirement only applicable for International applicant.
