Bachelor of Science (Honours) Construction Management

Bachelor of Science (Honours) Construction Management programme gives students with a comprehensive understanding of the entire construction and development process, beginning with the client's brief issued to the lead consultant and continuing through the design and planning stages to the construction, completion, occupation and maintenance of the facilities.

Its main areas of specialisation are construction technology, measurements and estimation, contract administration, construction project management and computer application in construction.

Students are introduced to the current technologies, skills and industry best practices at the early stage and will apply them in the form of assignments and final year projects. These include building information modelling, surveying, value engineering, project management and contract administration.

Students are taken to site visits for industry exposure throughout the programme. Industry speakers also make regular visits to campus to speak to students about a variety of topics. The students activities are well supported by the programme-based "Built Environment Society" which annually organises "Green Card" seminars, a safety and health certification by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). This prepares them for their Industrial training stint.

UTAR has established a close collaboration with the University of Kitakyushu and Shibaura Institute of Technology over the years. In addition to the research collaboration, student exchange activities are also included in the annual agenda. Through the student exchange activity, students are provided with excellent apportunities to visit each other’s institutions, exchange ideas and knowledge, and gain a deeper understanding of each other’s culture.
