TikTok Video Competition

The details of the Competition are as follows:

(a) Theme:  Campus Life

(b) The competition is open to current UTAR students and staff to create and upload their creative TikTok videos.

(c) The top 5 videos with the highest scores will be rewarded. The scores are judged based on content creativity, appropriateness to the theme, technical execution, audio and visual quality, ability to effectively tell a story and message as well as format.

(d)  The prizes for winners are:

· First prize – RM 500 

· Second prize – RM 300 

· Third prize – RM 200

· Consolation prize (2) – RM 100


Remark: Prizes are subject to availability and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without prior notice.

Terms and Conditions

Theme: Campus Life

1.       Organiser: Division of Programme Promotion (DPP)

2.       Theme of the Tik Tok video is “Campus Life”.

3.       Participation fees is free of charge.

4.       The competition duration is from 1 November 2022 (9.00am MYT) to 18 November (5.00pm MYT) 2022. Entries outside the competition period will not eligible for entertained. The winners will be announced on 9 December 2022.

5.       Participants MUST fill in the registration form and upload the video. Submission without fill in the registration form would not be accepted.

6.       The Organiser reserves the right to modify the competition mechanisms, withdraw or terminate this competition at any time at its sole and absolute discretion without prior notices to the participants. 

       Eligibility

7.       The competition is open to ALL current UTAR students and staff.

8.       Multiple entry is allowed with different video contents.

       Submission Requirements 

9.       Video format

a)       Videos can be in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and/or English.

b)      Videos that are not in English must have English subtitle.

c)       Videos should not be more than 1 minute (60 seconds) in length and should use hashtag #UTAR and #UTARCampusLife

d)      Videos should be in vertical, with 1080 x 1920 dimensions and aspect ratio 9:16 (standard smartphone screen), .mp4 or .mov files. Failure to apply the following format will result in deduction of scores.

e)       Audio quality must be clear. On-site audio feed or narration is allowed.

f)       All information presented in the video must be cited, giving credit to the original source. Plagiarism of any kind will result in disqualification. 

10.   Videos can include elements of:-

a)       Various enjoyments available in UTAR Campus (For example, campus life in UTAR, food journey, campus view, etc.)

b)      Sharing of study journey and UTAR campus such as exam, societies & clubs, facilities, etc.

c)       Any other content based on participants’ creativity

11.   Each submission will be tied to ONE eligible participant.

12.   The Organiser may at its sole and absolute discretion extend the competition period. Unless otherwise varied to the contrary by the Organiser, any participation in the competition during the extended period (if any) shall be governed by the Terms and Conditions set out herein which shall remain in full force and effect at all times.

13.   By submitting a video to the competition, participants confirm that they are the legal and/or beneficial owner or otherwise have the intellectual property rights to submit such materials; and therefore warrant that they have obtained rights in incorporating copyrighted materials i.e. music, soundtrack, audio, graphic, images and/or video clips in their entry. Each video and any part thereof shall not at any time infringe or violate any laws or the rights of third party. 

14.   Videos must not have been submitted to any other competitions/competitions/film festivals before.

15.   Videos must not contain or reference to any names, products or services of any company or entity or any third-party trademarks, logos, trade dress or promotion of any brand, product or services (other than the Organiser’s).

16.   Video that are lewd, obscene, sexually explicit, pornographic, disparaging, defamatory, libelous, illegal, offensive or otherwise contain inappropriate content or objectionable, material should not be submitted and the Organiser reserves the right to remove or demand the participants to remove such video at any time at the Organiser’s sole discretion.

Notwithstanding to the above, the participants hereby agreed that the Organiser shall have the right to demand the participants to remove or to stop publishing, and distributing the video(s) in any manner or on any platform or social media if the content in the video(s) contain material deemed objectionable to the principle or value of the Organiser including but not limited to offensive or unlawful, discriminatory or sexually explicit and libelous material. The participant shall, at all times comply with the rules and regulations imposed by the Organiser and Malaysian Law in producing the video(s). 

17.   By submitting the videos, the participants of the videos are to grant the Organiser exclusive rights of the copyright to use the videos or material submitted for promotional or commercial use globally.

18.  All costs and expenses in connection with the production of the video and the participation of the competitors shall be fully borne by the participants.

19.   Videos will be judged based on:

 (A) Content Creativity (25%);

 (B) Appropriateness to the Theme (25%);

 (C) Technical Execution (15%);

 (D) Audio and Visual Quality (15%);

 (E) Ability to effectively tell a story and message (10%);

 (F) Format (10%).

Organiser’s decision is final, conclusive and binding. No further appeal, enquiry and/or correspondence will be entertained.

How To Submit 

20.   All complete videos are to be submitted through (Google Drives Link) together with registration form before 5pm on 18 November 2022.

21.   Upon submission, all participants are required to submit full name (as per NRIC), student/staff ID, e-mail, contact number, programme and year of study.

       Prizes

22.   The winners will receive the following:

(a)    1st Prize: RM500

(b)    2nd Prize: RM300

(c)    3rd Prize: RM200

(d)    2 consolation prizes: RM100 each

23.   The Organizer reserves the right as its absolute discretion to substitute any of the prizes with alternative prizes of similar value, at any time without prior notice. All prizes are given on an “As is” basis and are not exchangeable or sold for cash, credit, other items or vouchers in part or in full and are non-transferable to any other person.

       Eligible Winners 

24.   The eligibility to win the competition is on the condition that participants fully comply with the Terms and Conditions as stated herein.

25.   Incomplete videos and/or the failure to fulfil all or any of the Terms and Conditions will automatically disqualify participants from the competition without prior notice.

26.   The Top 5 best submissions as determined by the Organiser in their sole discretion will be judged for its ranking of the prizes. The Organiser’s decision is final, conclusive and binding.

27.   Participants may submit more than one (1) video but only one (1) prize will be given to each of the prize winner.

28.   The Organiser will upload the winners’ videos to UTAR Tik Tok account (UTARnet).

       Announcement of the Winners

29.   The winners will be announced on 9 December 2022.

       General Terms

30.   The Organiser will not be responsible or liable for any loss in connection with the competition, including, but not limited to the following:

(a)    Any problem, loss or damage of whatsoever nature suffered by any party due to any delay and/or failure in receiving and sending the video as a result of any network, communication or system error, interruption and/or failure experienced by the participating internet line and/or resulting from participation or the downloading of any materials in the competition. In the event of such error, interruption and or failure, the Organiser will not be responsible or liable for any Eligible Participant to participate in the competition at any time. 

(b)    Any problems, expenses, damages, losses, suits and claims of whatsoever nature against any participants that may arise from or in connection with their participation in the competition and/or display of their videos.

(c)    Any errors (including error in notification of competition winners), omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, internet line failure, theft, destruction of, or unauthorised access to videos, unresponsive computer whether or not arising during operation or transmission as a result of server functions, virus, bugs or other causes outside its control.

(d)    By participating in this competition, the participants agree to defend, indemnify and hold the Organiser harmless from and against any suits, claims, losses, damages and expenses, including reasonable legal fees that may arise from or in connection with the competition. 

31.   By entering the participants shall agree to appear in internet, videos, photographs and write-ups which may be used in advertising (any form of media) or other materials by the Organiser. Participants shall not be entitled to any payment for such use, or for any re-use; and acknowledge that all copyright, including the right to reproduce the video or image shall belong to the Organiser absolutely; and to release and discharge the Organiser from any claims in relation to the Organiser’s use of the video or image.

32.   The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, modify, suspend or delay the competition in the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

33.   By participating in this competition, all participants hereby warrant that all statements of personal details given are true, correct, accurate and complete and that they have read and understood all the Terms and Conditions of this competition and agree to be unconditionally bound by it.

34.   The Organiser reserves the right to change, amend, delete or add to any of these Terms and Conditions without prior notice and the participants will be bound to such changes.

35.   Any matter which is not covered under the Terms and Conditions herein shall be determined solely by the Organiser.

36.   For the avoidance of doubt, cancellation, termination, suspension, or extension of the competition, the participants shall not be entitled to any claims or compensations whatsoever against the competition Organiser for any loss or damages suffered, sustained or incurred by the Participant as a direct or indirect result of cancellation, termination, suspension or extension of the competition.
