How to Become a Member of the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)?

Chemists, like engineers, surgeons, architects, accountants, and lawyers, are professionals in Malaysia. Malaysia has a Chemist Act, one of the few in the world. The Chemist Act 1975 empowers the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry or Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM) to regulate chemistry in Malaysia. To register with IKM, one must be a chemical graduate from a Malaysian institution or university. The Act restricts chemists to those registered with IKM.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Chemistry (Honours) programme at UTAR are eligible to apply for membership in the Insitute Kimia Malaysia (IKM) as well as the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in the United Kingdom.
