The UTAR 5-year MBBS degree programme is listed in the Second Schedule Medical Act 1971 as one of the registrable medical qualifications for medical practise in Malaysia. Graduates can then register with the Malaysian Medical Council and apply for a compulsory internship at a government hospital, known as housemanship, as well as compulsory service at a government or public university hospital before becoming qualified medical officers. Aspiring doctors can continue their education and training as specialists through postgraduate studies and supervised training.
