Finance is concerned with the management of money and the acquisition of funds by individuals, businesses and governments through the financial system. It deals with activities such as managing financial resources for daily operations, the designing of sound financial or investment strategy, raising of funds, acquiring low-cost credit, fund allocation and financial risk management.
The finance degree programme aims to prepare students with specialised financial skills and the ability to design financial management strategies as well as provide top-level financial advice to governments, businesses and individuals. It allows for in-depth study of critical concepts in finance, economics and accounting while focusing on issues of business finance in both domestic and international settings. There will be an emphasis on quantitative techniques, and require skills in key qualitative and quantitative research methods. UTAR has cutting-edge learning facilities, such Refinitiv Financial Terminals. Our students will learn how to analyse financial markets, assess economic scenarios, and interpret key news developments that affect the global economy by having access to Bloomberg as part of their coursework.
Aside from professional recognition, UTAR is one of the few universities in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) University Programme that incorporates the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) into the curricula. Hence, students will be prepared to take the CFA examinations.
